A lone hawk watches for breakfast at sunrise

Kansas, a great place to live. The name comes from the Sioux Indian Language, "People of the south wind."

Welcome to Our Kansas, or www.ourks.com or my little spot on the web. The purpose of the pages was just to share a few of the sweet, free spots in our state.

As you tour the pages, if a spot comes to mind that you would like to see here, let me know. I have visited many that are not represented here. The state is just loaded with history and fascinating places to visit. I hope you enjoy the tour!

The background image on this page came from a sunset, there were a few wispy clouds in the sky, it was very blue and as the sun went down, the clouds turned orange. The photo above was snapped at sunrise on the east side of Salina. The hawk in the tree was intently watching the area below and did manage to catch a mouse before I left. In both cases the show was simple, free and all mine. It could have been yours too, but you were not there.

The sky turns black and ugly as the storms approach!

The sky is normally blue here and we do have a lot of blue skies. The Kansas ads say we have over 330 days a year without rain and with clear skies. They can turn nasty though, this sunset was a wall cloud approaching from the northwest. The clouds were dark enough to make the streetlights come on. Almost as a promise of better times coming, the sun was shining through. The photos almost looked like fire and smoke when I opened them.

Take time to roll through some of the pages. I hope you find some that inspire you to get out and visit our fine state.
