What an era! 1920 to 1929 at the 2002 AC Tumbleweeds Last Rod Run!
"The Roaring 20's" a phrase that all of us have heard. The 20's were roaring indeed; we were recovering from World War 1, the war that would end all wars. WW1 ended in 1918; the country was not devastated like the European countries. Prosperity was upon us and the best craze of the 20's was the automobile.
Inventor Henry Ford built a car in 1896 using an internal combustion engine. The world never looked back! Henry started a new company to mass-produce his new invention, Ford Motor Company. The car was the famous Model T, by 1927 Henry had sold over 15 million Model T cars.
By the middle of the decade there was a car for every house. The nation poured fresh monies into a highway system that created an economic boom like no other. Radio became extremely popular; life was fast and easy. America was the flagship for the world, and then it happened, October 24, 1929, the stock market crashed.
Ford introduced the Model A in 1928, bigger, faster, stronger and almost as popular. The Model A was the standard for the times. Even during the depression, Ford managed to sell millions of the little Model A cars. The competition responded and the automobile was here to stay.
