Brown County, Hiawatha

Brown County is bordered on the north by the State of Nebraska, on the east by Doniphan County, on the south by Atchison and Jackson Counties and on the west by Nemaha County. Brown County includes the communities of Baker, Everest, Hamlin, Horton, Fairview, Mercier, Morrill, Padonia, Powhattan, Reserve, Robinson, Sun Springs, and Willis. The Kickapoo Indian Reservation is also in Brown County, home of the Golden Eagle Casino.

On the day of our visit here it was a cold and rainy day in February. The courthouse stood strong as it has since 1925. The real surprise came when we went inside. The interior is very colorful.

This is looking into the courtroom. They were holding some sort of hearing, not to intrude, we took our photos from the back of the coiurtroom and moved on our way. The jury box is off to the left.
